Chalk it up to a great first year!

Chalk it up! Art Festival, Broken Arrow, OK

I had a chance to attend the first “Chalk it up! Art festival in downtown Broken Arrow, OK this morning, on Main Street between Centennial Park and the Farmer’s Market. It was great.

The artists were busy creating their works of art on the pavement in the road (a lot harder than it might sound at first). Aspiring young artists were making good use of the discarded chalk on the sidewalks, and a few artists using other mediums were there, basking in the creative vibes, and creating works of their own.

I look forward to future years, and to watching this festival group.

Go see Chalk it up! An Art Festival on Facebook, for updates, more pics, and a list of winners after they are announced.

As a spectator, I was certainly impressed, Daniel – there was some amazing talent down there. The artists were very intense…working flat on the (black) pavement was a huge challenge, especially on the larger pieces, and several were working in teams. But they were getting it done, and the many of the works were just beautiful.

That’s what makes stuff like this so amazing. And to think it’s all so temporary. Reminds me of Navajo drypaintings, but without the ceremonial significance.

Speak now, or forever hold your pieces.
